Glad that I just finished Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at The Window, written by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi from Japan. I have ever read this title a long time ago and have a yen for it so much but never have time for reading it but now. The book is so much inspiring for me and I suggest to people who loves and cares about children and their world especially development of education should read this book. And surprisingly I knew the author is the main character in this book when I through the end part of book. Yeah, she is Totsky! (the other call name of Totto-Chan by her father and Rocky—her dog). I wonder how the book could be as I have been dreaming for an ideal school. The story begin since Toto-Chan—a first grade student should be dropped-out from a elementary school because her teachers thought that she had a bad manner in the classroom and couldn’t handle it. The teacher said to Totsky’s mother that Totsky was open and close her drawer for more than 100 times a day. Furthermore, she always stand by the window waiting for bucker through the street and when they were coming, she will call bucker to play their music then she asked their classmates to see bucker's performance while the teacher was teaching.
Totsky moved to another school named Tomoe—a basic school in the wagon founded by Kobayashi. Yeah wagon, where the student in every grade took a wagon as their classroom which was filled up by around 10 students. She was a happy girl when she knew that the school has unique learning method and kind hearted teachers especially the headmaster. The student could learning depended on their mood, based on what they like and skill, still many activities like walking around, observing nature, sport, music, camping, singing, dancing, swim naked, and others school daydream learning method. Honestly it makes me remember of Sekolah Alam (Nature School)—my last year program in college which suited to the growth of children. I think Totsky absolutely not a naughty girl. She has a huge curiosity that supposed to service by the right people. And the story recommend to those who cares children and their world, to every single teacher in the world, to prospective teachers, to parents about how to understand also how to treat children, and to children themselves how to manage their curiosity! I have never recommend any good book in the sense really good book but this one. Happy reading!
